Post-Corona people are facing health issues like weakness, no stamina, unable to walk even some distance. And few people facing sudden heart attack and side effects on the brain, lungs, digestive system, liver, kidneys, ears, nose, throat, bones and other organs of the body. Recovered Corona is good relief. The big deal will be facing mentioned challenges with proper treatment.

An online survey was conducted in India on individuals who recovered from Corona (Dr D Nageswar Reddy and team). The survey has been conducted about 5000 members.  Below are the some of the facts from this study.

  • 48% of the covid patients had recovered in one to three months duration, 34% of the patients had taken more than three months to get recovered from it.
  • 38% of Corona patients went to the hospital for treatment, 34.28% had to take oxygen services.
  • 75% of the hospitalized patients treated with steroids among them two by third patients had oxygen issues.
  • 64.15% of Patients suffered from weakness and no stamina, 31% had body pains.
  • 48% of the patients who were treated at hospitals got new health issues, 37% who got cured with Corona without hospitalization experienced some health issues.
  • Post Corona, 6% of the people were readmitted to the hospital with other health issues.
  • Corona Patients who were treated with steroids and oxygen has more chances of getting other health issues.

Post-COVID Follow Up Protocol

The government of India, Ministry of health and family welfare had issued Post-Covid guidelines.

“At individual level –

  • Continue COVID appropriate behaviour (use of mask, hand & respiratory hygiene, physical distancing).
  • Drink adequate amount of warm water (if not contra-indicated)
  •  Take immunity promoting AYUSH medicine  – To be practiced and prescribed by a qualified practitioner of AYUSH.
  • If health permits, regular household work to be done. Professional work to be resumed in graded manner.
  • Mild/ moderate exercise: Daily practice of Yogasana, Pranayama and Meditation, as much as health permits or as prescribed. Breathing exercises as prescribed by treating physician. Daily morning or evening walk at a comfortable pace as tolerated.
  • Balanced nutritious diet, preferably easy to digest freshly cooked soft diet and Have adequate sleep and rest. Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol.
  • Self-health monitoring at home – temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar (especially, if diabetic), pulse oximetry etc. (if medically advised)
  • Take regular medications as advised for COVID and also for managing comorbidities, if any. Doctor to be always informed about all medicines that the individual is taking (allopathic/AYUSH) so as to avoid prescription interaction.
  • If there is persistent dry cough / sore throat, do saline gargles and take steam inhalation. The addition of herbs/spices for gargling/steam inhalation (refer to Annexure I). Cough medications, should be taken on advice of medical doctor or qualified practitioner of Ayush.
  • Look for early warning signs like high grade fever, breathlessness, Sp02 < 95%, unexplained chest pain, new onset of confusion, focal weakness. “

Healthy food to rebuild your stamina

  • Yogurt having simple sugars like lactose and galactose once it is processed in the body produces ready to use energy improves stamina, it also contains protein that helps slow down the digestion of carbs.
  • Nuts will have a good amount of proteins, healthy fats and carbs.
    Add these nuts walnuts, cashews, almonds and groundnuts as snacks in the diet.
  • Add chicken and eggs to your diet to gain muscles, healthy bones and improving immunity levels. Additionally relieves stress, increases testosterone and stamina levels.
  • All the crabs are not good, to maintain stamina increase your food intake with complex carbs. Brown rice rich amount of such carbs which digests slowly and keep you energetic for long hours. Brown rice is also a great source of fibre and B complex.
  • One of the inexpensive ways to gain energy instantly in your body is to eat a banana. It is a mix of carbs, fibre, minerals like potassium & magnesium, vitamins A & C and healthy fats.
  • Studies show that Citrus fruits – rich in vitamin C- help us to remove toxins from the body, by the way, improves body immunity and stamina. Drink a cup of lemon & ginger tea or orange juice daily to refresh from work.
  • Green vegetables are a rich source of vitamins, which may not directly help to produce energy but they activate other organs and hormone production to improve body overall functionality.
  • Fish is the best food item to improve body stamina, it has a good amount of omega-3 fatty acids which are great for your body and brain. You can quickly recover from fatigue and get back on your way faster.
  • Drink good amount of water. Get away from Alcohol and smoking.
