What is Acid Reflux:

I would like to share my decade long suffer from Acid reflux also called as GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)  and how we can overcome with simple & effective food habits and life style. I have completely stopped consuming medicine after a decade struggle. Acidity or acid reflux few may think that its minor health issue, but one who suffers must well experiences real pain. Acid reflux happens when contents from your stomach move up into your esophagus. 

The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a circular band of muscle at the end of your esophagus. When it’s working properly, it relaxes and opens when you swallow. Then it tightens and closes again afterwards.

Acid reflux happens when your LES doesn’t tighten or close properly. This allows digestive juices and other contents from your stomach to rise up into your esophagus.  In India about 20% of city’s population suffers from gastric issues and 70% of them below 50 years age group.

Symptoms:

  •     Burning sensation and pain in the stomach.
  •     Burning sensation and pain in the throat.
  •     Difficulty swallowing or the sensation of food being stuck in your throat.
  •     Frequent burping or hiccups for no apparent reason.
  •     Burning sensation and pain in the chest, heart or esophagus.

Further we can experience that, unable to concentrate on work,  sleepless nights, being Joyless, depressed , dad smell from mouth and decay of teeth. Please go through below mentioned tips and habits for better results in short time.

Ways to overcome Acid Reflux:

  • Make a habit of having food in fixed regular timings: Our body behaves as per our habits; even different seasons our body try to get adjusts as per the conditions after sometime. Hydrochloride Acid has main role in the food digestion, our stomach releases sufficient HCL in regular intervals once it releases , it should have engaged in the food digestion, If there is no food in the stomach it start burns stomach walls and slowly move up to throat in case of acid reflux. Eating food in fixed Regular timings regulates the HCL and avoids the burning effect in stomach or reflux, and eat food slowly with proper chew before swallow.  Do not eat big quantity at a time, have little quantity in more intervals.
  •  Avoid drinking water while having food and start use of Alkaline water: Water is a good solvent; make habit of drinking water half an hour before a meal and after half an hour after a meal, then water easily mix with partially digested food in 30minutes gap and further it helps in smooth digestion. lets analyze with a blender when we blend some grains at the starting we will not add any water, after certain grind only we add water to mix properly. Same scenario can apply here as well to get digest food properly, otherwise water, food, & digestive juices will not engage or mix properly in digestion process and all will be separate and causes acidic issues. Today many water purifying brands promoting Alkaline water and its having higher pH value (8 to 9) than normal water this  alkaline properties help us to balance acidity levels.
  •  Reduce oily food and do not boil oil many times: Fried, oily food shows impact on functioning lower esophageal sphincter that leads to acid reflux and heart burn and pain in the throat. If you use oil in the cooking which boiled more than two times again it enhances acid reflux. It may also cause to form ulcers and there is a chance of certain throat cancers.  Spicy food will cause burning sense in stomach that further disturbs smooth digesting system in few people, based your body conditions have spicy food.
  • Avoid Citric Acid vegetables or fruits: Consuming food with citric acid content increases acidic nature of the body , in my case tomato shown much impact on my acid reflux and heart burn. For better sleep avoid acidic foods particularly in dinner.
  •  Soft and hard drinks and smoking: Soft drinks filled with bicarbonate gases with cool nature and alcohol these both creates burning sensation in addition to acidic action, no word to say about smoking its affects on human body specially on throat muscles along with reflux. Try to reduce these as much as possible.
  •  Sleep in regular timings: Go to bed early and get up early this habit shows good results on digestion and reduce acidic issues. If you go late to the bed sleep will not come naturally or on time, when sleep will not come your body needs more energy, accordingly stomach releases more juices than what required usually, its further increases acidic levels, its impacts on sleep, further sleepless, brain engaging in some thoughts, once you engage with thoughts, we need more energy for brain,  this process will have chain reaction its not only leads to acidic issues, its affects whole body health in long run.
  •   Do not be nervous in tasks and avoid over thinking: As mentioned we are thinking means our brain works restlessly, brain is organ which consumes more energy in the human body, over thinking means it needs more energy at the end it disturbs our concentration at the end not good results. One with acidic/reflux issues this phenomenon shows savior results and nervous action or angry /short temp further increases body acidic levels. If you feel suffering from acidic issues do not think much and try to engage in some physical activity or try to divert thinking on acidic issue to some other worthy and be peaceful pleasant state. It prevents linked reaction in the body.
  • Do physical workouts or Yoga: Workouts should be part of our daily life, its not only keeps us active, it helps us to think healthy and sufficient and become bold and attractive. Whole body will be streamlined with physical exercises and breathing activities with yoga. Its also help us to repair digestive system.

Above all tips may help us to control and stop issues with regards to acidity or reflux, same I have experienced in my life. And also make habit of preparing fresh ginger tea and consume daily after breakfast.

Lemon will have citric acid, once it mix with water it exhibits alkaline properties and garlic and ginger will enhance digestion functionality.  Take 150ml water add sufficient ginger + one garlic rib mixer and boil water till evaporates and then cool down to semi hot  and then mix with one tea spoon of fresh Lemon juice. Filter this tea and drink it!  You will experiences good results in short period.
